You are invited to print this out, sit with a lovely
cup of something warm and both find and create great value from today's
edition. We do our best to offer that for you.
A NOTE FOR YOU FROM RHOBERTA...
Dear $firstname,
This last weekend was Labor Day and I hope you had a relaxing, refreshing,
renewing time. I did. I sat in the sand with three friends, enjoying
the Pacific at its finest. And, it was a Dog Beach, so we had our best
buddy dogs along, too. My dog, Mystery, thought that was the perfect
idea, especially when we broke out the picnic lunch!
Do you really give yourself permission to rest on long weekends? It’s
a great thing to do. I invite you to treat yourself well and get
enough rest, enough downtime. You deserve it because YOU MATTER! It
took me a long time to learn that resting is a bonafide activity. It’s
not laziness. It’s not lack of drive or ambition. It’s simply
wise!
Are you enjoying FaceBook? Please do invite me to be your friend. I’d
be delighted. Also, I invite you to join in my Soul-Driven Living
and Soul-Driven Love groups on FB. Just another way for us to keep in
touch! Or, find me on LinkedIn.com, too. Great place for
business-minded folks!
GREAT NEWS! We can meet early next year. That’s exciting. First,
if you live in California, Oregon, Washington or British Columbia, you
can take part in my Soul-Driven Love journey. In February—of course,
it has to be the month of love, right?—I’ll be doing a speaking
and seminar tour from San Diego to Vancouver. If you’d like
to help with that, or sponsor a talk or seminar, jump right in and let’s
talk! Just send me an email at RS@SoulDrivenLiving.com I’d
love to talk with you about bringing Soul-Driven Love to your group.
Of course, it’s available to any group at any time, so, even if
you’re
not on that motor home tour path, let’s talk about bringing the
program to your city, too.
Want to create a Soul-to-Soul relationship, a relationship that you
have longer for, but maybe not yet experienced.? This last week we had
more than fifty folks registered for the free Soul-Driven Love teleseminar
and there are more free ones coming up soon, even this coming Saturday
morning. http://www.souldrivenliving.com/soul-driven-love/freeintro.htm
Many folks are settling for relationships that are compromises, where
no one is extremely happy, but not really miserable enough to make a
change. That’s not Soul-Driven Love. That’s mediocrity
at best, foolishness at worst. You deserve to be in a Soul-Driven relationship
and you can create one—without changing partners. If you’re
sure you’re ready to do that, the four-week, in-depth program,
Soul-Driven Love: Forging the Bonds of Conscious Connect, starts on September
9. Visit http://www.souldrivenliving.com/soul-driven-programs/index.htm
I’m so glad that we’re walking through life together. Thanks
for inviting me to walk with you. Spiritual Living Digest will come to
you every three weeks, and, I’ll do my best to bring you practical,
relevant ideas for living the life you most want. If there is something
you’d like me to write about, or, if you have a question, feel
free to send it along to me at RS@SoulDrivenLiving.com
Make it a great fall!
Many blessings, much joy and great love,
Rhoberta

A) QUOTE TO INSPIRE
"Whatever we share is from the infinite bounty
of God. Any limitation comes only when we calim that we are sharing
something that is ours. If you realize that anything you give or share
never was yours and if you have no personal sense of glory about sharing
or giving since it came from the Source, it will never run dry. The
Source, which is God, never runs dry! It is infinite!

D) TODAY'S FEATURED ARTICLE
YOUR CHOICE: FAITH OR FEAR?
© Rhoberta Shaler, PhD
Founder, Spiritual Living Network
You can’t have it both ways! If you’re living fear, you
cannot demonstrate faith. When you’re living faith, there is
no fear. It sounds so simple!
What does it mean to live faith? We don’t live “in” faith.
We simply live faith. It’s not a place, a destination, or a container.
It’s a demonstration. The same is true of fear. Where are you
living?
Recently, I was working with a coaching client who truly believed she was
living faith, and, it was the topic of conversation for us frequently as
it relates to every aspect of life. One day, she came in and I asked the
usual question,
“How are you?” An innocuous question, to be sure, however,
it was met with an unlikely response.
“I cannot take another trip to the mailbox. The bills are too many
and the bank balance is too small. I don’t know what to do. I
feel like I’m hitting bottom.”
It’s those seemingly less-than-perfect circumstances that let us know
where we are living. It’s easy to live faith when you feel well, you’re
eating well, your relationships are good and there’s money in the bank.
It’s easy to talk about faith then. It’s when conditions
seem less than optimal that we doubt. We shift to living fear. And, we have
lots of company willing to commiserate with us, too!
This is no Pollyanna approach I’m advocating, so, stay with me here.
There is a very big distinction between denial and positive thinking. We
need to be clear about that. Many people are very interested in positive
thought and varnish over the observations of reality in their zeal to appear
positive. You’ve met them and you know what’s really so. They
belong to the “fake it ‘til you make it” school of spirituality.
And, they seem to take great pleasure in correcting your language to demonstrate
that they are more aware than you are. If he or she happens to be your
spiritual teacher, that’s one thing as that relationship is all about helping
you become more aware. Many times, though, it’s other zealous
folks who feel superior when they catch your slips. Of course, when they
are thinking about you, they are not doing their own work. This is
often their avoidance tactic!
I met an elderly friend not long ago and I knew she had recently been in
the hospital. I asked her how she was feeling. With a very forced smile,
she looked at me and said,
“I’m just fine.” As I hugged her, I asked,
“How are you really?” Her response:
“I feel like death warmed up!”
She was sticking to the “party line” because she was the greeter
in a New Thought church. In my opinion, she was suffering from a misconception
resulting in denial. There is nothing amiss when one acknowledges the
current state of the body. That is a simple observation. It is not a “creative
thought”, yet many who learn about spiritual principles through things
like popular media—a video, book, teleseminar—are meeting principles
in a very introductory, and sometimes sensational, way. Sure, it is
a great step to be positive, to say things positively, to affirm only what
you want. To know the present condition of the body means one can turn
attention to what really matters and what truly will make a difference: seeking
the knowledge, wisdom and the activity of God within ourselves through our
meditation, our Soul Solitude* time, our private communion with God. Our
responsibility is to live in conscious union with God in that secret, sacred
silence.
So, what about my client who easily slipped to living fear after her trip
to the mailbox? It’s not about the slipping. Forget that. It’s
about how quickly can you regain your footing on spiritual ground. As she
gave voice to her fear as she spoke to me, she immediately saw that slippery
slope and climbed to higher ground.
“I know I have a choice. It’s fear or faith, isn’t it?” she
asked, somewhat rhetorically. “It’s so easy to feel the fear
and react. It’s such a habit…and I get great sympathy. My
task is to remember that that is not what I believe. It’s not what
I choose, right?”
She knew where she wanted to re-direct her attention. We worked together
for an hour to find ways that would work for her to remember and re-focus
as soon as she changed direction away from living faith. That is our journey
here on earth. She is a happy traveler.
