Comment on Are You Willing to Put Your Foot Down? by WAYNE

Perhaps (as the saying goes) it's just me, but my response to such questions would in all likelihood "piggy-back" on that familiar admonition from the New Testament:

"According to your faith, so be it unto you." - Gospel according to Matthew 9:29

In what is a person - be it myself, or another - exercising faith?

In this instance, it is in - for want of a better word - one of two states of consciousness. There may be many ways to define these states, but for now, I choose the terms: LACK and ABUNDANCE.

And I volunteer that this is one of those instances where there is no "middle" or "neutral" position; eack and every person is living and operating - whether consciously or unconsciously - from one of those states.

As the name implies, the person living and operating in a state of Lack would likely think and act as if he or she must seize what they want right now - and by any means necessary - before someone else takes it out of their reach. Or, as the proverbial phrase states, "every man for himself and devil take the hindmost".

Conversely, he or she who lives and operates in a state of Abundance knows not only that they can indeed have whatsoever they want, when they want it, but that everyone else can do so simultaneously. It could be argued that such a person may either "put their foot down" for the sake of another who does not subscribe to Abundance, or can exercise their right to take what they want, because they are not so much taking anything away from another person, but rather from that infinite supply which both religion and philosophy - properly understood - tell us, is open and available to all. And, it is ultimately no-one else's fault but the individual if they, through their lack of faith or unbelief in Abundance, literally cut themselves off from the infinite supply.

As another commented years ago, the proposition given by that verse (Matthew 9:29) can be considered, not to be a mere figure of allegorical or metaphorical speech, but rather, a scientific fact, simply stated.

More, perhaps later.

I have my own philosophy about ego: if you still have an ego, you are not yet a whole human being. Also, about the inner guidance: you have to choose to live life by fate or by destiny.

Come to think about it, perhaps one could expand Descartes' original statement to read:

"I BELIEVE - therefore I Am."

since it could be argued that it is more than merely Thinking - it ultimately comes down to what the thinker BELIEVES.

And such was also expressed (in different terminologies) by others.

"The Law of Life is the Law of Belief. We demonstrate what we Believe."
- Dr. Joseph Murphy, "The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind

"Whatever we believe does, for us, in very fact, exist. Our beliefs may be erroneous, from the standpoint of a happier belief, but that does not alter the fact that, for ourselves, our Beliefs constitute our Realities, and these Realities must continue, until some ground is found for a change in Belief."
- Thomas Troward, "Bible Mystery and Bible Meaning"

"According to your belief, so be it unto you"
- Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 9, verse 29 (in modern-day English)

Interestingly enough, that last statement is, as I have come to appreciate it, not a mere figure of allegorical or metaphorical speech, but rather, it is a scientific fact, simply stated.

Yes, Wayne, and A Course in Miracles suggests that miracles are natural. Here are few words from the first chapter of the text that might be well included in these thoughts on SLN:

"Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. The real miracle is the love that inspires them. In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle. ....Miracles are natural. When they do not occur, something has gone wrong. ...Miracles are a kind of exchange. Like all expressions of love, which are always miraculous in the true sense, the exchange reverses the physical laws. They bring more love both to the giver AND the receiver."

It is all indeed something to think about. Thanks, Wayne.

I recall something I first encountered years ago, written by Napoleon Hill in his book: "THINK AND GROW RICH", which, on first glance, might seem to "throw a damper" upon the average person's endeavor to search for a miracle or breakthrough in whatever area of life:

"In your search for the secret of the method - by and through which thought, backed by strong desire, has a tendency to transmute itself into its physical equivalent - do not look for a miracle, because you will not find it. You will find only the eternal laws of nature. These laws are available to everyone who has the faith and the courage to use them."

Perhaps what Hill might have been trying to impress upon his readers at that time - and perhaps now also - is that, rather than look upon the miracle we might be seeking as something fantastic, out of the ordinary, etc., we should simply regard it as a perfectly natural occurence. Such an attitude towards our desired object might remove a great deal of stress and strain which might otherwise pose a hindereance to the seeker, as they try to convince themselves that they can indeed realize the object of their desire.
